Jefferson's Rebuttal

Hamilton's plan is not good in the long run- Something a lot of people did not understand, is that even though Hamilton's plan will make more money now, it will bring our country to termoil in the end. Look at Europe, for example. Most of their citizens were in poverty, why? Because they worked in factories for 10 hours a day earning minimum wage. Then, the citizens were so poor, they couldn't pay their taxes so they went to jail. Guess what? No more workers to work in the factories! Having farms will get us on a steady start, then we can add factories later. This will also prevent our children from running the country one day, because they will not be educated from working in factories all day. This will not work!

Farms are just the beginning- Another thing people did not understand was that farms were just the beginning. We weren't going to totally base our lives off of farms, it was just a start to our nation. Obviously, starting with factories would get us no where, so farms were a better idea. Once again, Hamilton's plan thought about now now now, not what will happen in 100 years? Farms would just give us the push we need to start off, then we would add other jobs and factories. We will eventually become more powerful, but for now, farms are the way to go.

Factories will end badly- Even though factories may provide more jobs now, as I said in paragraph 1, citizens become poor from bad wages, then go to jail. Then, there are no people to work in factories. In the end, factories will close, the few that actually benefitted from the factories will eventually go broke, and our country will come to an unfortunate end. This will only prove everyone else who was expecting us to fail right. It also will, in the future, prevent revolutions from happening and prevent countries from becoming democracies. Our success in this is crucial to a lot of other countries following in our footsteps to become what they are today. I don't know about you, but I know most of us didn't like it under the rule of England. We will go back to that if we decide to go with factories.

I agree! I think that Jefferson has the right idea of how the United States should run. I think that it is important that we build our own economy and have confedence in ourselves. If we have farms to work on instead of factories, we become more indipendent, and we know that we can run our own country. If people work on farms, they get the education that comes from it. If people work in factories, and for the minimum wage, then they don't learn how to do anything having to do with surviving. If people stay with managing their own farms, them people will start to earn a lot more money than if they work for a factorie that pays minimum wage. Hamilton's finanial plan is good for the time that he is around, but in the long run, it dosn't work so good. With Jefferson's plan, it works a lot better.
